Growing in exponential rate everyday and changing as just as fast. Naturally companies try to offer access to internet in growing number of ways. Dial-up, Broadband, Wi-fi and such. But we'll talk about broadband today and is it really that necessary to switch from dial-up to broadband.

Is it worth it to switch to broadband service? As most things are, it depends on you're situation. Dial-ups are cheap, today it's almost dirt cheap. That’s it's advantage, but don't expect to surf the net in cruising speed. If speed is what you want then broadband is significantly faster that dial-ups.

Back to the question. What really helps in deciding if switching to broadband is a must. Is try to ask yourself "How do I use the internet for?". By the way I’m a big fan of the saying “Questions Are Answers”.

If you're using the internet for:

- checking and sending e-mail
- chatting (without video)
- surfing for text based information

Then switching to broadband is a waste of money. like most people, they just use the internet for checking and sending e-mails. Dial-up will work for you just as fine.

If you're using the internet for:

- Downloading movies and music
- Watching streaming videos
- Chatting with video and voice
- Playing online games

Just like me. I use the internet for online games, checking my websites, downloading music and videos. So broadband was a huge help for my internet life.

To conclude. The internet is becoming the wave of the future. Easy access to information and services. But switching to broadband is up to you and you're needs. So I suggest that you ask yourself "How do I use the internet for?". Knowing the answer would be a great help in deciding if broadband internet is for you.

About the author:
This Article is written by Jed Baguio, Please visit my site for more advice on broadband. http://www.broadband-internet-directory.com/

Substitute the Internet for Your TV

Substitute the Internet for Your TV

by: Daniel Punch

I have fond memories of waking up early on Saturday mornings and softly tiptoeing out to the family room to watch early morning cartoons when I was in elementary school. Then in high school I became more interested in the action-oriented TV shows in the evening. A little while later, I found that I just didn't have the time to dedicate an hour or so a day to sitting and watching mindless entertainment at a given time slot, and so I no longer watched TV at all. Gone are my days of watching those humorous cartoons and ridiculous heroes every week.

I recently discovered the online film scene, though, and it's fantastic. Short films, up to about 20mins in length, just posted online for all to download. Many of them are better than the professionally produced, high-budget TV shows that stream so liberally to your TV box. Every one is a labor of love, so even when the production values aren't high you know that someone has poured themselves into the product, which brings satisfaction beyond that of watching some stale TV show now into it's 19th series and just churning out the money makers.

Cartoons were my first port of call. It's been a long time since I've been awake and free early enough in the morning to watch some animated entertainment (and besides that, the cartoons on TV now are largely trash). A friend introduced me to my first online cartoon, the enormously popular and hilarious Homestar Runner (http://www.homestarrunner.com). This site is fantastic. There are longish cartoons and games, with new ones being added every now and then, but the main reason to visit and continue to return is a lovably vicious character named Strong Bad. The creators of the web site answer roughly one email a week using this character that basically insults people in the most hilarious ways possible. It's all quite family-friendly and is more than worth a bookmark.

More animated wonders and filmed entertainment can be found at Atom Films (http://www.atomfilms.com), which has become a free service recently. Also worth a look is Ifilm (http://www.ifilm.com) that offers the lower-bandwidth streams of films for free. Be slightly wary here though as there is an uncensored section and occasionally some videos will show up on the main page that aren't entirely family-friendly. These two sites showcase hundreds of short films, from animated to live action, from musical to martial arts. They host music clips and film festival winners as well as some non-professional but often still high quality work.

For the action fans there are a number of 'Stunt Crews' out there, risking life and limb for the sheer giddy thrill of looking really cool on tape. They'll have you wishing you were just half as talented as they are. One particularly active and talented group goes by the name of The Stunt People (http://www.thestuntpeople.com). They have a large number of videos available online, most running for about 20mins and almost all of them jam packed with martial arts and tricking entertainment. Of similar style, although not quite as stunt-oriented, are Jabronie Pictures (http://jabroniepictures.com/). These films all contain some violence and occasionally some coarse language, so you may want to screen them before showing them to younger children.

There are those who claim that TV can be used to keep up with the events unfolding in the world, the people who watch the news when the 'Simpsons' is on the other channel. For those socially minded folks, a quick search for 'News video streams' reveals a large number of pages, such as http://www.humanitas-international.org/newstran/streaming-tv.htm that contains a large list of streams, providing news updates on demand.

So if you've got a little downtime and there's nothing on TV, try shifting on over to your computer and basking in the wonderful entertainment provided by many talented people who just want to share their creativity. Or, keep yourself current with happenings around the world. It's fun and free. Ballatan

Isn’t it more interesting to pay attention on a kind of medium that is complete with valuable data and presented on a creative way with audio-video quality to match? That’s the kind of media we sometimes look for before becoming compelled enough on certain products or service offers. Content delivery over the Internet is really never guaranteed.

Given this, it is easy to understand why streaming media has worked enough to become part of our daily lives. Streaming media is the term for enabling the real-time distribution of digital media (audio, video and data) over a network that could be the internet or a corporate Intranet. Here, digital media are received as a continuous real-time stream.

Streaming audio and video demand that delivery is reliable and fast. It is advantageous since it allows the multimedia to be downloaded and viewed simultaneously without leaving behind physical files. It is easy to understand why streaming media works for almost everyone since everyone can benefit from it. From new parents wanting to share their child’s first birthday party with long distance relatives to corporations holding live shareholder meetings online – in fact, anything that can be captured, can be streamed.

How is streaming media distributed, then? A server transmits the streaming media data, presenting it in real-time to a client application running n a PC or other electronic device such as a cellular phone or Personal Digital Assistant. As soon as enough data has been transmitted and stored in the client’s buffer, the streaming media allows the devices to begin playback of the multimedia.

By using a live streaming media server, almost any multimedia content can be streamed, including audio and video assets obtained from nearly any source. Streaming does not choose any type of multimedia – whether it is stored on old 8mm film reels or already stored as an MPEG file on your computer.

However, though your streaming server is live, you can never be sure your audience can see and hear your content as you intended for them to view and hear it. It should be understood that performance of streaming media is more crucial than any other type of Internet traffic. Loss of performance will instantly mean a loss of audience. And once your audience can’t connect or lose service quality, then your efforts and investment may be wasted.

To make sure your streaming media work, along with other investments online like content creation, high performance web hosting and content delivery networks, make sure that your investment delivers results. By this, it means that you have to make sure that your audience can see and hear what you are broadcasting.

Work on streaming your chosen multimedia content for necessary purpose it may serve you. Choose a streaming server that’s reliable and has a wide range of services like Tier-1 OC-192 Content Delivery Network (CDN); professional and knowledgeable customer service staff; support for a wide array of Media Formats; network designed from the ground up for: scalability, performance, and redundancy. -30-

About the author:
Lala C. There are many different types of software that you can choose from when it comes to picking something for your children to enjoy on the computer. Depending on the age bracket of your children youll have to take some time to choose software that does what you want it to do.

For the younger child aged three to five there is software that features some of their favorite television characters such as Dora the Explorer or Bob the Builder. Your children will be both entertained and educated as they play games, learn the alphabet, and learn to count. Software for very young children is easy for them to play so that youre not always coming to their assistance whenever they press a wrong key.

Software for older children aged five to ten has even more interactive features than software for the younger child. You can buy software that is exclusively for learning and software that will only provide entertainment. Most software comes with a rating to let you know that it doesnt contain any material that is inappropriate for children. Some types of software for this age group of children include puzzle games, software for learning a second language, math and science software, video game software, software for the artist, and software that allows your child to connect with the internet and play games with other children around the world.

Software for teens is something that youll need to supervise a little more closely since much of the software on the market can be objectionable and will often test the morals and virtues that you are trying to teach your children. When you buy software for your teen make sure that you take a good long look at what the software is all about, since many of the software games can feature a large amount of violence. There are, of course, software programs for your teen that are educational as well as fun and that they can use to enhance their schoolwork.

With so many different software choices out there how do you know that youre making the right choices? Check out some of the parental listings that can be found on the internet. Many parent websites will offer you advice and ratings for much of the new software that comes out each month. This way you can be assured that other parents are approving a certain piece of software before you make your purchase.

Keep in mind that you should always limit the amount of time that your children spend on the computer. Children should be encouraged to spend just as much time playing outdoors as they do playing and learning on the computer.

About the author:
Zack Macchio is a software enthusiast and webmaster of "Software - Fone Software", a top Internet directory for software resources. However, not all things are provided on E-bay for sale. There are things that are prohibited in being displayed in E-bay due to infringement of some existing laws.

This list of prohibited items should be strictly noted unless it's okay for the seller to be banned from the E-bay listing or his or her account suspended. He or she may even face some criminal charges relative to the violation of the law.

These prohibited items are as follows:

1. School-related software.

This refers to any kind of school-related software that is being sold to students or researchers at marked down amounts.

2. Law-related items like brand names misused just for personal gain; copyrighted materials, unauthorized recording or footage of a live show; beta software or software that are used to test and assess a software's over-all performance; any software or hardware used to extract different audio and video files in a CD, VCD, or DVD; or items that a seller cannot provide proof of authenticity.

3. Wildlife creatures and animals.

Any kind of animals being sold in E-bay is strictly prohibited. There are certain laws that govern the illegality of selling wildlife animals especially those that are classified as extinct or nearly extinct.

4. Tickets or contracts of concerts, shows, or any kind of performances.

Selling of these items is strictly prohibited unless the seller is permitted to do so by an approving officer. Sale of such legal agreements may result to breach or violation of the law.

5. Fake items such as counterfeited currencies. These are not only prohibited in E-bay but are highly punishable by law.

6. Any downloadable media.

These refer to any kind of software that was only made available for certain people. If the seller is not the sole owner of the rights of said downloads, E-bay will not accept such items for sale. In such cases, these items will only be allowed provided that the seller can provide proofs of copyright ownership and that this must be stated when posting the item for sale.

7. Goods that were prohibited from other countries.

8. Signatures, faces, or names of people without the owner's permission.

9. Any kind of ammunition or weapon.

10. Government licenses, identification cards, or any pertinent document related to the government.

Usually, E-bay updates or modifies this list of prohibited items. And so, it's important for every buyer and seller to get hold of an updated copy of the list of prohibited items on E-bay.

About the author:
David Riewe is a Publisher and Online Marketer. As its usefulness grows, so does the need to deliver a fast, reliable Internet connection to PCs and other home appliances.

Whether it’s downloading directions, instant messaging, uploading your favorite photos or simply sending e-mails with attachments, the Internet is the backbone of modern communication. Today, access to it is as critical at home as it is in the workplace. For that reason, many new homes are built with telephone, cable and Category 5 (Ethernet data cable) wiring bundles; making high-speed data transfer only a plug-in away. However, most people don’t have the convenience of Ethernet jacks throughout their homes, resulting in expensive and messy data cable installations. In 2002, more than 1.5 million homeowners installed their own wireless network, and if Jupiter Research is right, these wireless networks will surpass wired ones by 2005.

The Web’s transition from a place for text and images to one that includes a repository of video, animation and audio is proceeding rapidly. New uses of the Web require higher-speed Internet connections, and its usefulness is greatly enhanced by the ability to share those connections.

The evolution of wireless technology reflects that “need for speed,” as the newest generation of products categorized as 802.11g are typically five times faster than the older technology (802.11b). The new 802.11g technology is compatible with earlier products and handles data transfer typically at 54 mega bits per second (Mbps) compared to 11 Mbps of 802.11b. However, products from U.S. Robotics 802.11g Wireless Turbo family perform at an incredible 100 Mbps with the company’s exclusive Accelerator Technology. At these blazing speeds, downloading MP3s, streaming video, large audio clips and uploading big files is quick and painless.

What’s Needed?

Creating a reliable, wireless network requires only three things. First on the list is an Internet connection. While broadband (DSL or Cable Internet) is a necessity for high-speed downloads, dial-up can work if wireless connectivity is the main goal. With broadband, the service likely has a modem device (with a single Ethernet port to connect to the computer), or a router (with multiple-Ethernet ports).

The second thing you need is a wireless access point or router. That piece of equipment allows you to share the broadband connection wirelessly. If you have an integrated router/broadband modem you will only need an access point. If you have a single port broadband modem, you will need an access point with an integrated router. You will also need a wireless card or adaptor to allow PCs and other devices to access the wireless network. They come in three basic formats: PC cards for laptops, PCI cards for desktop PCs, and USB for any machine that supports USB. Installing a network is relatively easy and will dramatically change the way the Internet is used at home.

Look Ma, No Wires!

The beauty of wireless connectivity is that it provides an inexpensive and relatively simple way to share Internet connectivity, files, printers and other devices within a home. No new wires! In purchasing a network’s components, the following should be taken into consideration.

* Speed -- Faster is better. It may not make much difference today, but it will later.

* Security -- There are several techniques to provide security for a wireless network and the higher-bit encryption numbers offer better security.

* Compatibility -- 802.11g devices run at a minimum of 54Mbps, and are typically compatible with the older 11Mbps 802.11b products but not with 22Mbps 802.11b+ products.

* Coverage -- Pay attention to what vendors say (or don’t say) about the size of coverage areas.

* Reputation -- Go with a company that you are confident will be around in the future. Over time these products often can be upgraded with software enhancements that provide improved performance or new features.

Setting up your wireless network is easier than putting together a child’s first bicycle and will be an important addition to your home for many years to come.

For more information about wireless networking products, visit www.usr.com/lookma-nowires and go wireless today! Products from U.S. Robotics 802.11g Wireless Turbo family are also available for purchase at Wal-Mart stores nationwide.

Courtesy of ARA Content

Here are some general ideas to help you get started.

Kids Items You Can Sell

Clothes, toys and videos are good money makers on eBay.

Go to eBay and look up a "lot" of size six girl's cloths. You will find they are expensive! The average price for a lot of 20 good conditioned clothes is about $35.00.

When your kids grow out of their seasonal clothes do not throw them out. Bundle them into different lots by category. For example bundle girls dresses separate from girls play clothes, but only do that if you have at least six of each different type.

Lots of any item sell better than single items unless the item is unique or high priced. For example, a hand embroidered dress that you paid a lot for would sell better by itself instead of bundled with other basic dresses.

The next item to lookup on eBay is toys. Most toys in good condition will sell for a lot of money. One idea that works well is to buy hot items in October at Wal-Mart or Toys-R-Us and sell them on eBay. Busy people are willing to pay extra for the convenience of getting the items delivered to their home.
For example, last year a Mega Power Ranger came out in stores around October and sold at Wal-Mart for about $45.00. The same item sold on eBay for up to $65.00 plus shipping. The Yellow Power Ranger is yet another example where the store price was about $6.00, while the same item was selling on eBay for about $20.00.

Have your children ever received duplicate birthday or Christmas presents? You can sell those on eBay also. Look at the eBay listings for items of interest to see if selling on eBay is worth more than returning the item to the store.

Kid's videos and DVDs are also good money-makers. Bundle about three of these together, and you can usually make about $7.00-$12.00 per bundle. Bundle more and the money goes up. Disney movies in hard cases can go for a higher amount. This also works for other types of movies as well.

Save those McDonalds toys. Some Kids Meals toys sell high. Take the new Star Wars toys from Burger King...very collectible. You will find them selling on eBay from $1.00 to $5.00, not including shipping.

Ebay has a whole section devoted to dolls and bears. If your daughter doesn't want her collectible dolls anymore sell them on eBay.

Kids Crafts You Can Sell

Around the holidays, especially, have your children place their hand in paint and make a print on some quality paper. Add a holiday related poem and you have a great craft to sell on eBay.

Have your kids make gift jars with ready made mixes. For example, hot chocolate mixes in a jar with a plastic spoon tied to it with a ribbon. Dip the end of the spoon with white chocolate.

Baby Items You Can Sell

Used baby items are very profitable. Baby items cost a lot of money, especially in their first year. Any "gently" used items are generally good sellers on eBay.

If you have baby coupons that you will never use, sell them on eBay! Left over diapers and formula sell well also. A lot of 35 used cloth diapers usually sells for around $38.00 plus shipping. Four Fuzzi Bunz diapers (cloth diapers with hemp inserts) can sell for as much as $40.00.

There you have it. Plenty of ideas for selling those leftover kids items on eBay...and you can even make a nice profit while you are at it!

About the author:
Discover 101 Ebay Auction Tips http://www.push-button-online-income.com/101ebaytips.zip

Searching For The Right ISP

                 Searching For The Right ISP?

by: Neil Shevlin

When searching for the right ISP there are a number of items to look at. How much is it going to cost me? What is the connection like? What are the Features? Is it available in my area? You will soon find that there are many ISP’s to choose from. So, it is beneficial for you to pick the right internet service provider.

The cost is probably the most important aspect to most subscribers. Yet, many are not willing to put up with the low quality provided by free ISP’s. This leaves them looking for low cost ISP’s. The best way to find the lower cost ISP’s is to search for them. Most of the ISP’s you are going to see advertising are going to be a bit higher than those who do not have as much advertising. A search of the internet may help you find some of these ISP’s.

Although the price may be right, if your connection is weak you may not to go with that ISP. This can happen because problems with the cable or phone lines are common with the ISP. It can also occur if your ISP has a large volume of users trying to access the internet at the same time. This is particularly true with dial-up ISP’s that do not have enough phone numbers. Also you want to make sure that the ISP is compatible for the tasks you want to do. For instance, AOL users sometimes have problems with some aspects of the net. This is because the program that runs AOL is so dominating. If you frequent certain sites, they may list ISP’s that have problems using the site. This usually applies to sites that have music, video and effects but don’t really apply to straight text.

The features are also important. In fact, if you don’t want to be frustrated with pop-ups you may find yourself drawn to ISP’s that offer pop-up blockers and virus protection. You may be worried about your children surfing the web. A feature to block adult sites may be what you are looking for in that case. ISP’s are coming up with new features all the time so you really do have some choices here.

Another important aspect is availability. Not all ISP’s are widely available. This is especially true for ISP’s that are free or low cost. Even if an ISP is available in your area, there may not be an available local phone number. When you use your dial-up modem with a long distance number you may incur long distance charges while you are on the net. In addition, if there are local numbers but not many of them, you may have trouble connecting to the internet.

About the author:
Neil Shevlin is the owner of http://www.ukcheapbroadband.comwhich is a great place to find broadband links, resources and articles. Each of these stages requires use of different sets of tools and professionals with varied skill sets.

Planning and Analysis don't require as many software tools as the experience of the web master or project director. They need working knowledge with all aspects of server and database. Familiarity with Operating Systems and the Internet server applications are required. Experience with IP networks, programming languages and database development are also essential. The two most common Operating Systems used are Windows NT/2000 and Unix, although many also use Linux. Most commonly used Internet programming languages include PERL, CGI, ActiveX, ASP, and Java among others.

In the next stage of Web designing, tools such as HTML Meta tags, JavaScript, CGI, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia DreamWeaver and Adobe Photoshop are used. Web templates, graphic designs, photographs, texts, clippings, audio and video are also included, as per the requirements. Flash helps in animation that gives an identity to a website. Visual Basic is the most common language for scripting and SQL with other database engines are used for database management on the website. To create Search Engine Optimized content, tools such as Overture are used. Once the most popularly searched words in your industry are identified and short-listed, the content creators write content using these search words. This ensures that your website lists high in the search engines and directories.

In the next stage of Web designing, tools such as HTML Meta tags, JavaScript, CGI, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia DreamWeaver and Adobe Photoshop are used. Any functional errors, if found, are corrected. The Promotion and Innovation stages, help in marketing a website. Pay-Per-Click Search Engine Promotion, Loyalty Programs, Email Campaigns and Online Games are some tools used for website promotion. Tools such as site statistics software and reporting from site searches let you know what exactly your visitors are looking for. The content and marketing strategies are then adjusted accordingly. A website also needs to be maintained and continuously evaluated and updated with respect to content, presentation, layout and technical aspects.

Use of good web development tools ensures that your pages have good content, Meta tags, a high link popularity score, appropriate keywords and visual appeal. Although web development tools are essential, it also takes a seasoned team of programmers, graphic designers, content creators, consultants and marketing staff to work in tandem to create a technically sound, visually appealing and highly functional website. A well-planned site, apart from being high in functionality, is also easy to re-design or alter, at a later stage.

"

About the author:
I write articles for www.web-design.nr10.com,a San Francisco Web Development and Web Design Services, ##10 (number 10) is a Marketing and Technology Agency focused on delivering design, web technology development and e-business strategy solutions.
